Mindful has certainly had a jam-packed 2019 – from a full month of college inductions, winning multiple awards, and attending our biggest ever AOC conference, it’s been a busy year! 2020 is set to be just as busy, but before we get too ahead of ourselves, let’s have a look at some of our highlights from the last 12 months…
🏆 Study Resource of the Year 🏆
In March, our Level 2 Accounting course was awarded “Study Resource of the Year” at the PQ Awards. The PQ Awards bring the accounting sector together to celebrate the successes of part-qualified accountants and those that help them achieve their goals. Level 2 Accounting was the first course we ever created, making this win even more special.
UK Business Technology Awards
🏆 EdTech Company of the Year 🏆
In November, we were delighted to be named EdTech Company of the Year at the UK Business Tech Awards. The awards celebrate UK technology businesses who show exceptional innovation and application of technology to transform and grow businesses.
🏆 Best Use of Technology in Learning 🏆
In December, we won the “Best Use of Technology in Learning” award at the TJ Awards, topping off a fantastic year! The TJ Awards are part of the Training Journal brand, and they recognise the work of learning and development professionals from around the world.
We had a record number of college inductions this year, which meant lots of planning and lots of train journeys! More importantly, it meant meeting the wonderful tutors and staff that work in partnership with Mindful to help them kick off their new courses, and to meet new and existing Online and On Campus learners in person. This September 2019 induction period saw 75 course launches with 28 college partners, and 940 learners and apprentices.
Our 1000th student
This year saw a particularly special milestone for Mindful as we met Harlow College’s Gina, the 1000th student to study an Online and On Campus course! Having gone from just 22 learners when we launched in 2015 to over 1000 in 2019, it really brought home what an exciting year it’s been.
Filming with college partners
In March, a team from Mindful went along to our partner Walsall College to film an apprenticeship case study. At the college, we spoke with Assistant Principal James Norris, AAT course tutor Debbie, and two Online and On Campus Assistant Accountant apprentices Alex and George. We then went over to Alex’s workplace, DKR Accountants, where Managing Director Khuram spoke about the benefits of apprenticeships for his firm.

Annual report 2019
In November, we published Mindful Education’s first ever Annual Report. There was input from every team across the organisation, and the facts and figures were skilfully brought to life by our in-house Graphic Design duo, Luca and Temi. All of our partner colleges have received a copy though the post, and we’re very grateful for the wonderful feedback they’ve given us.
The Association of Colleges Annual Conference 2019
This year’s AoC Annual Conference was our biggest event to date. We were delighted to return as conference sponsors, and brought with us updated brochures, our new Annual Report, and a thought piece examining the digital landscape in further education. Our MD, Mark, also delivered a breakout session, discussing the DfE’s EdTech Strategy with SMT from Walsall and Harlow Colleges and former AoC Chief Exec, Martin Doel. The AoC Annual Conference is the highlight of our events calendar, and is a great opportunity to engage with delegates across the sector, and spend time catching up with our existing partners.
You can watch a short video about our time at the conference here.
That’s a wrap on 2019, but we’re looking ahead to another exciting year! We’ll be launching even more courses and apprenticeships for the Spring term, planning our 2020 events, and continuing conversation surrounding EdTech and its future. See you in 2020 👋
