From 01/09/2026, AAT is replacing its current Level 4 Diploma (Q22) with the Level 4 Diploma for Professional Accounting Technicians (Level 4 PAT), a Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ) recognised by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education.
- Launch date: 01/09/2026 for new students
- Structure: 5 compulsory units (no electives): Financial accounting, Management accounting, Audit & internal controls, Principles of taxation, Advanced business awareness
- Assessment: 100% computer-marked, with results typically confirmed the next working day
- New focus areas: Digital skills, sustainability, ethics and EDIB
- HTQ status means: Better funding access (Student Finance England tuition loans), clearer progression to Level 5/degree study
- Existing students: Can still register for Q22 until 31/08/2026, with until 31/07/2028 to complete it (transfer to the new syllabus available after, for a small fee)
