New accounting Level 2 units: Building skills in the workplace
We are excited to announce the addition of two new units for learners who are starting their Accounts or Finance Assistant Level 2 apprenticeship. These units are designed to support apprentices before or during their qualification, including when preparing to start an accounting work role, and with gathering evidence for their portfolio.
All lessons are mapped to the skills and behaviours elements of the Level 2 apprenticeship standards. Knowledge elements continue to be covered by the AAT Level 2 accounting qualification.
Starting Work in Accountancy (SWIA)
This unit has been designed to support apprentices who are new to the workplace:
Lesson 1 – Getting Started at Work:
- Skills, behaviours and valuable personal qualities
- Codes of conduct
- Equality, diversity and inclusion
Lesson 2 – Being part of a team:
- What makes a good team
- Building positive relationships
- Sharing best practice and feedback
Lesson 3 – How to manage your time:
- Understanding tasks
- Managing your time, prioritising work and meeting deadlines
- Personal development
Lesson 4 – Communicating with internal and external stakeholders:
- Communication skills
- Dealing with queries
Calculations and Spreadsheets for Accountants (CASA)
This unit has two lessons and is useful for all learners at the start of their accounting career:
Lesson 1 – Maths Revision and Introduction to Spreadsheets:
- Revision of percentages, fractions, proportions and ratios, including rounding
- Spreadsheet skills; basic formatting and calculations
Lesson 2 – Spreadsheets and Security Measures:
- Spreadsheet skills; data accuracy, columns and rows, find and replace, relative and absolute cell referencing, linking worksheets and basic charts
- Data security and control measures
