The Diploma in Management and Leadership is accredited by ILM. Staff study at college part-time and complete work-based projects as part of the course. This qualification is ideal for those who are, or who wish to become, Operational or Departmental Managers, or existing managers who have practical management skills, but wish to develop their theoretical understanding further.
What will I learn?
The course covers a wide range of business management skills and knowledge, including organisational performance, interpersonal skills and personal effectiveness.
Study method
Online, you will study Mindful Education’s award-winning video lessons, which are available on demand, and can be viewed from your phone, tablet or computer – meaning you can choose how, when and where you want to study. Lessons last for around 45-60 minutes and are accompanied by animations and motion graphics to bring concepts to life. Practice questions, downloadable lesson materials and interactive case studies help to enhance the learning experience further and learners should expect to spend around 3-4 hours studying independently online each week.
On campus, you benefit from regular classes with your college or training provider – without having to commit to attending multiple evenings each week. Your tutor will review what you have learnt during your online lessons and will be on hand to provide guidance on progress and assessment. Regular discussion with classmates will help to reinforce key points while also providing the additional support and motivation that comes from being part of a group.

How will I be assessed?
Assessment is via practical work-based assignments provided by the college. This ensures you minimise time away from work and that you undertake work study which is relevant to your own organisation’s context.
Entry requirements
Learners will be expected to hold 5 GCSEs at grade 5 (C) or higher. Prior experience may also be considered. Learners should also have achieved qualifications in English and mathematics at GCSE or equivalent.
Progression
Upon successful completion of this course, there is an opportunity to study LMI courses at higher levels up to level 8.
Career opportunities
Learners who successfully complete the programme will be awarded a Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership and will also be eligible to register as full members of the Institute of Leadership and Management.
Roles may include: Operations Manager, Regional Manager, Divisional Manager, Department Manager and Specialist Managers.
Key responsibilities may include creating and delivering operational plans, managing projects, leading and managing teams, managing change, financial and resource management, talent management, coaching and mentoring.

The cost of the course can be met by individuals or their employers. Individuals may be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan. This qualification is also available through our partners as an apprenticeship, which may be a preferable funding model for some employers.
