New Level 3 accounting unit: Apprenticeship synoptic

Mindful Education Marketing team

September 2024 will see the launch of our brand new Apprenticeship Synoptic unit, which has  been designed for Level 3 Assistant Accountant apprentices who are preparing for their assessment.

v1.2 EPA is made up of a new computer-based knowledge assessment (KNWA) and a professional discussion. The KNWA is a series of multiple choice and calculation, scenario-based questions over four themes. The scenarios will focus on the application of logic and reason to resolve real-world scenarios typically encountered in an apprentices on-programme training.

There are four assessment objectives covering knowledge and skills:

AO1 – Financial statements and bookkeeping (K1, K2, K3, K5, S2, S3, S4, S5)

AO2 – Professional standards and ethics (S4, S6)

AO3 – Digital and data security (K6, K8)

AO4 – Financial investigation and queries (K4, S1, S6)

Most learning outcomes from all Level 3 units are assessed and have been mapped to the KNWA. However as there are some exceptions we have broken down this information at the start of the unit for you and your apprentices to view. In addition to our work, you can find detailed information in the End Point Assessment Specification provided by the AAT.

Within our Apprenticeship Synoptic unit there is:

  • An overview of topics that are assessed within the synoptic unit.
  • Assessment practice tasks – these practice tasks have been developed to provide apprentices with a wide range of questions, that cover the breadth of the scope of content for the knowledge assessment. Assessment practice tasks are provided under each heading of the Level 3 qualification units to assist with revision, together with correct and incorrect feedback that encourages apprentices to re-visit and revise any areas required prior to sitting the KNWA.

Our assessment practice tasks have been planned, are presented in a learner friendly way and provide comprehensive coverage of the assessment objectives apprentices will need to know. They have been designed to complement AAT’s practice assessments which replicate the KNWA layout.

If you would like to discuss this new resource for Level 3 apprentices, and how best to use it to help with your delivery, then please email operations@mindful-education.co.uk.

We have also launched new units, which focus on building skills in the workplace, for learners starting a Level 2 Accounts or Finance Assistant apprenticeship – you can read more the new units here.
