Making the most of your Online and On Campus course

Mindful Education Marketing team

Have you just started your Online and On Campus course? If you’ve only experienced fully classroom-based learning until now, it may feel like a big shift but with so many benefits to blended learning, we’re confident that you’ll quickly appreciate the flexibility and effectiveness of this approach.

At Mindful Education, we produce flexible, award-winning, blended learning courses and apprenticeships. We see the positive impact of our courses on learners firsthand, so we have compiled some tips on how to make the most of your blended learning experience – and shared some insights from past Online and On Campus learners.

Take control of your learning

The greatest advantage of blended learning is that you learn at your own pace, and can set your study hours, making our course and apprenticeships ideal for those with busy lives.

At your induction, you’ll be given access to your Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). This hosts all your online course content and resources, and you’ll also be able to view or download your bespoke course calendar. The calendar shows you:

  • When online lessons are released on the VLE
  • All classroom sessions
  • Exam dates

Make sure you use the calendar to plan when you’re required in college – especially if you need to make travel, childcare or other arrangements while you’re out.

“As an online and on campus learner, Mindful Education has been exceptional in facilitating my learning in a way that is flexible, succinct and accessible. As a full-time working single parent, re-qualifying couldn’t have been made more comfortable.”

Utilise the tools available

At your course induction, you will receive a welcome pack with items to help support your learning. This welcome pack includes a notebook, a pen and a study planner. Use your pen and notebook to jot down your learning into one place so you can always look back on it. This will also help you reinforce what you have just learned.

The study planner will help you organise your day by allowing you to allocate the appropriate time for study each day.

When you log in to the VLE, you will be able to watch high-quality, engaging online lessons paired with optional and essential questions to test your understanding. We also offer additional resources for you to use to further challenge yourself and solidify your learning.

“The VLE certainly caters for learners’ needs in that there's visual, there's auditory, there's written, so the lessons were really intuitive and really, really interesting. The motion graphics throw a different angle. I always enjoyed watching the videos. I liked the fact that I could pause and make notes. I do like to make notes!”

Rewatch, re-read, reinforce

Stuck on a tricky topic and need to revisit? Rewatch the recorded tutorials as often as you like, and use our useful transcription tool to jump to a specific part of the video to refresh your learning.

Each lesson on your VLE will also offer a ‘Study Text’, which is a comprehensive PDF of the material covered in each lesson, including full video transcripts.

“For my Level 2 accounting course, I watched videos and read transcripts all the time. With my level of English, I wouldn't be able to understand and pass the course just by attending the On Campus lessons. I need to read, watch, rewatch and re-listen multiple times so I can learn concepts and improve my English writing. Seeing real examples of accounting helps me understand much better than just reading the theory from books.”

Ask for help

Some topics can be challenging, so if you need any assistance, don’t hesitate to raise a ticket in the VLE. These are reviewed by tutors and can be picked up in your next On Campus session or Online.

Blended learning means that tutors can dedicate more time to giving you personalised support, and you may not need to wait until your next campus session to ask for any help or advice you may need.
